CHARLOTTE, North Carolina - Charlotte Independence found the back of the net in the 74th minute, which proved to be the deciding goal in a hard-fought 1-0 USL Championship Eastern Conference match Saturday night in Charlotte, N.C.

Memphis (2-8-5, 11 pts) outshot Charlotte (3-7-7, 16 pts) in the first half, including three tries in the final 10 minutes that just missed. Elliot Collier blasted a right-footer on-center to the goal, Ewan Grandison was wide-left in the 39th minute, and newcomer Brandon Allen just missed with his left foot in the final minute before extra time.

With the match still scoreless well into the second half as the two teams looked for the upper hand, Charlotte got on the board when Jorge Herrera put it home off a beautiful pass from Enzo Martinez. Collier had another try four minutes later, but his header went over the bar.

Charlotte had the shot advantage over Memphis in the second 45 minutes, 13-3.

Lagos Kunga and Collier finished with three shots, one on-target, apiece for 901 FC. Adam Najem was accurate with nearly 83 percent of his passes in the midfield, and Josh Morton had eight clearances in the back line.

The squad now returns to AutoZone Park next Saturday, July 6, for a Downtown Memphis showdown with Hartford Athletic. The month of July has four home matches for 901 FC.
