Reading Fightin Phils News Release
Aldrem Corredor's sacrifice fly with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning plated the game-winning run as the Reading Fightin Phils walked off Wednesday's game 4-3 against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (Mets).
Corredor had one hit and two RBI while McCarthy Tatum and Vito Friscia each had two hits. Reading's pitching staff held the Rumble Ponies scoreless over the final three frames.
Binghamton put up two runs in the first inning on two RBI singles. However, Ethan Lindow settled in on the rubber and dealt four-straight scoreless innings.
Corredor got Reading on the board with a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth, his second in the last three games.
The Fightins knotted the game at two in the following frame. Tatum made it back-to-back innings with leadoff home runs when he clubbed a homer to center field.
A single and a double put runners on first and third for the Rumble Ponies in the sixth. With one out, Nick Meyer drove home the go-ahead run with an RBI bunt single.
The visitors threatened again an inning later. With the bases loaded Tatum fielded a groundball and threw to Herbert Iser behind the plate. The catcher fired down to Corredor at first base to seal the double play to end the frame.
Reading got two runners on in both the seventh and eighth innings, but couldn't bring them home and remained down by one heading into the ninth.
Down by one in the bottom of the ninth, the Fightins scored two runs in the bottom half to walk it off. Friscia singled to lead off the frame and was replaced by pinch runner Jonathan Guzman. Johan Rojas reached on a fielder's choice and Guzman advanced to second. Kevin Vicuna grounded a ball to first base to plate the tying run but a throwing error allowed the winning run to advance to third. Corredor's sent a fly ball to shallow center field but it was deep enough for Rojas to score.
Lindow went six innings and gave up three runs on seven hits. The lefty struck out five.
Taylor Lehman pitched two scoreless innings of relief. He allowed one hit and two walks but kept the Rumble Ponies off the score board.
Billy Sullivan struck out the side in the ninth to set the Fightins up for a rally in the bottom half.
The Fightins will play at FirstEnergy Stadium next on August 25 at 7:00 PM.
