
Burns Fans Six, Offense Scores Five in Akron's 5-2 Win over Richmond

Summary
Tanner Burns struck out six over five and two thirds scoreless while the offense put up four in the third to propel the Akron RubberDucks to a 5-2 victory over the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Wednesday night at Canal Park.
Turning Point
Akron looked to break the scoreless tie the in the bottom of the third when Julian Escobedo started off the inning with a single before Jose Tena was hit by the pitch to make it runners on first and second. Two batters later, Jhonkensy Noel ripped a double off third base bag to score Escobedo and Tena and make it 2-0 Akron. After a flyout, Angel Martinez hit his first Double-A home run to bring home Noel and make it 4-0 RubberDucks.
Mound Presence
Tanner Burns got the start for Akron and was sharp despite allowing some early base runners. After allowing two to reach in the first and second innings, Burns did not allow a runner to advance past first the rest of his outing. In total, Burns tossed five and two thirds scoreless innings while striking out six. Aaron Pinto followed with an inning allowing two runs. Kyle Marman tossed a scoreless inning and a third with one strikeout. Brett Daniels struck out two in a scoreless ninth to pick up the save.

The RubberDucks added on to the lead in the eighth when Daniel Schneemann hit a solo home run over the Bud Light Lime Tiki Terrace to make it 5-2 Akron.

Five and two thirds marks the second longest outing of the season by Burns...Schneemann's home run was his first since the walk-off home run against Erie on July 22...With a combined 10 strikeouts tonight, the Akron pitching staff is just 15 strikeouts away from breaking the franchise record for most in a season...Game Time: 2:35...Attendance: 2,136.
