Reading Falls to Binghamton in Series Finale

The Reading Fightin Phils mounted a comeback after going down six runs early in the game. They couldn't overcome the deficit entirely and fell 9-7 to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies on Sunday.

Both teams combined for 30 hits. Josh Ockimey led the R-Phils with three hits, including an RBI double in the bottom of the ninth inning. Mickey Moniak, Logan O'Hoppe, Kevin Vicuna and Jonathan Guzman each finished with two hits apiece.

Binghamton's offense exploded for six runs in the top of the second inning. Three straight doubles led to the first two runs of the game. Five singles led to the four more runs and Rumble Ponies batted around in the inning. A pitching change gave the ball to Mike Adams who ended the inning on a groundout.

Reading got a run back in the bottom half. O'Hoppe led off with a single. He advanced to third on Vicuna's double and scored when Binghamton made an error on a ball hit by Guzman.

Binghamton scored another run in the third inning but Reading answered with two runs in the bottom half when Aldrem Corredor hit a two-run home run, making the score 7-3.

The R-Phils scored two runs again in the fourth inning. Vicuna led off with his second double of the game and he advanced to third base on a single by Guzman. Sal Gozzo followed with an RBI groundout. Moniak batted in the second run of the inning on a double to right field.

Binghamton pushed two more runs across the plate in the top of the sixth inning to make the score 9-5.

Guzman doubled to lead off the bottom half of the inning. He advanced to third on Gozzo's sacrifice bunt and scored on Moniak's RBI groundout to cut the home team's deficit to three runs.

The Fightins scored one run in the bottom of the ninth inning. O'Hoppe walked with two outs. He crossed home plate on Ockimey's RBI double to right field. Vito Friscia battled at the plate as he fouled off four balls before striking out to end the game

Ethan Lindow was the starting pitcher for the Fightins. He took the loss in Friday's game as he pitched 1.2 innings and gave up six runs on nine hits.

Adams replaced Lindow and got the final out of the second inning. Through 2.1 innings, he gave up one run on three hits and struck out three.

Julian Garcia came into the game for the next two innings. He allowed two runs on three hits and struck out three.

Erik Miller pitched the seventh inning. He held the Rumble Ponies scoreless and gave up one hit.

Bubby Rossman also kept the visitors off the board. He entered the game in the eighth inning and gave up one hit. Rossman finished with two strikeouts.

Brian Marconi pitched the ninth inning. He didn't allow a hit or a run.

The Fightins will play at FirstEnergy Stadium next on June, 7 at 7:00 PM.
