Corpus Christi IceRays News Release

Lubbock, TX - The Lubbock Cotton Kings threw everything they had the Corpus Christi Rayz Friday Night. Scott Reid and the Rayz took it stride en route to a 2-1 victory at the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum. Reid made 42 saves, including some highlight reel chances to help the Rayz snap a three-game losing streak. Derrick McIver and Josh Miskovich tallied for Corpus Christi who improved their record to 12-14-1 on the season. The win moved the Rayz within two points of Lubbock for the fourth spot in the Southern Conference. The Rayz will now head back to Corpus Christi to close out the calendar year on New Year's Eve Tux and Pux Night at the American Bank Center Saturday night. Tickets are available and start at just six dollars. For more information, call the Rayz at (361) 814-PUCK.

The Cotton Kings jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Kyle Nosan found Josh Anderson from behind the net. Anderson cut to his left through the crease and backhanded a shot past Scott Reid to give the Kings the early lead. Three of Anderson's nine points this season have come against Corpus Christi. The Cotton Kings thought they had increased the lead to 2-0, when Paul Fioroni's shot from the top of the crease brought the red goal light on with 2:39 remaining in the frame. However, referee Steve Cruikshank consulted the goal judge and linsemen, and ruled that the puck never crossed the line keeping the score 1-0. Just 31 seconds later the Rayz tied the game when Derrick McIver received a pass from Ryan Carter behind the net and scored on his own rebound to tie the score. McIver's goal gave him tallies in three straight and sent the game to the locker room tied at one.

The Rayz got the only goal in the second period on a power play. Rookie forward josh Miskovich scored his seventh of the year from Chris Robertson from just outside the top left side of the crease. Miskovich's goal was his second in four games since returning off of the injured reserve list.

In the third period, Scott Reid would not budge as he led the Rayz to the victory. Reid turned aside all 11 third period shots, however none better than emery Olauson's chance inside the final five minutes of the game. A rebound chance popped right to Olauson, standing in the left circle and quickly put a shot on net that Reid kicked away with his right toe, while moving to his right. The Rayz were able to preserve the 2-1 lead and help Corpus Christi to their first win of the year over Lubbock. The Rayz are now 3-10-2 all-time against Lubbock. The Cotton Kings loss was the sixth straight goal and seventh out of their last eight decided by one goal. Both games between Corpus Christi and Lubbock have been decided by a goal. The Kings record fell back under .500 to 13-14-1. The Rayz went 1-3 on the power play and Lubbock went 0-5. Prior to the game, Rayz captain Bernie John was named a starting defenseman on the Southern Conference 2006 All-Star Team.

The Rayz return home Saturday night on New Year's Eve for Tux and Pux Night at the American Bank Center. The Rayz will host the Odessa Jackalopes at 8:05pm, and all fans in attendance will receive free admission to a post-game New Year's Eve Party on Shoreline Blvd. The post-game party will feature food, music and a spectacular fireworks display on the waterfront, presented by Budweiser.
