Laredo Bucks News Release

LAREDO, Texas - The Laredo Bucks and the Central Hockey League announced today that forward Jeff Bes and defenseman Serge Dube have been selected as starters for the Southern Conference All-Star team for the January 18th CHL All-Star Game in Hidalgo, Texas hosted by the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees. For more information on 2005-06 Bucks season tickets or single game tickets call the Bucks office at (956) 718-BUCKS (2825) or log onto www.laredobucks.com.

"They are very much deserving of this honor," Bucks head coach Terry Ruskowski said. "Serge and Jeff are both having excellent years. They have both been very important to this hockey team this season."

Ruskowski will be the Southern Conference All-Star head coach, an honor earned by the Bucks having the best winning percentage in the Southern Conference.

For Dube, age 26, it is his second CHL All-Star appearance. He was selected as a reserve for the 2004 CHL All-Star Game in Albuquerque. Dube, a native of Sudbury, Ontario, has helped the Bucks to an 18-8-3 record by registering a team leading 38 points. His nine goals this year is halfway to his career high of 18 set in the 2003-04 season and he leads the Bucks with 29 assists. He currently is riding a 10-game point streak, the longest active in the CHL, and has recorded a point in 24 of the last 26 games.

"It was great to be picked in 2004 as a reserve," Dube said. "To be selected as a starter this season is really a big honor."

Dube was selected as the Sherwood CHL Player of the Month for November after registering 21 points and helping the Bucks post an 11-1-1 record.

Bes, age 32, is also making his second CHL All-Star appearance. He was selected as a starter for the 2004 CHL All-Star Game in Albuquerque, where he registered two assists. That year Bes led the CHL with 117 points and was selected as the CHL Regular Season MVP. This season Bes missed the first eight games of the year, but since coming off the injured reserve has been on a tear. The native of Tillsonburg, Ontario, has 36 points in 21 games for an average of 1.71 points per game. He is tied for the team lead with 11 goals, his 13 multiple point games lead the squad and his 25 assists rank third on the Bucks.

"It is a real thrill to be selected again to start the All-Star Game for the Southern Conference," Bes said. "As one of the older guys on the team it is nice to make it, but it is more fun for me to see the young guys like Serge get rewarded. It has been great playing with him this year. He has had a great season and is very deserving."

Bucks forward James Hiebert was the fourth highest vote getter among Southern Conference forwards, just missing selection to the starting lineup. Hiebert who has 10 goals, 37 total points and 111 penalty minutes will get strong consideration for the Southern Conference team as a reserve.

"James has had a great season for us," Bucks head coach Terry Ruskowski said. "He is definitely worthy of going to the All-Star Game."

The starters are selected in a vote by the coaches, media and team broadcasters. The reserves will be selected by the respective All-Star head coaches and announced on January 3rd.
