Lubbock Cotton Kings News Release

Lubbock, Tx - The Corpus Christi Rayz did something they have never done in seven years... obtain a victory at the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum. Scott Reid stopped 43 of 44 shots to hold off the Lubbock Cotton Kings 2-1 Friday night, handing the Kings their third consecutive one-goal loss on home ice. The meeting was the 15th meeting all-time between the two clubs and it is only the third time the Rayz have ever defeated the Kings.

The last time the two squads met was on December 11th in Corpus Christi with Josh Anderson registering a game winning overtime goal to lead the Kings to a 3-2 win. Anderson had not scored a goal since that game winner until opening tonight's game with his sixth goal of the season. The goal gave the Kings a 1-0 lead with 9:57 remaining in the period. Paul Fioroni and the Kings thought they had a 2-0 lead with just over two minutes remaining when Fioroni tapped the puck past the goal line, but Steve Cruikshank thought otherwise and disallowed the goal. What could have been a 2-0 lead quickly went to a 1-1 tie, as Corpus Christi's Derrick McIver fired a one-timer from the top of the slots past Kings goaltender Lance Leslie just seconds later with 2:08 remaining in the period.

Josh Miskovich gave the Rayz their one and only lead of the game with a power play tally 2:15 into the second period, and it would go down as the final goal for the remaining 37:45 of the contest. The Kings out-shot the Rayz 44-22 in the loss. Lubbock was unsuccessful on the power play, as they missed out on five power play opportunities, while Corpus Christi was 1 for 3. Lance Leslie suffered the hard-luck loss, stopping 20 of 22 shots on goal. The games was the sixth consecutive (seventh out of eight) the Cotton Kings have played that has ended in a one-goal differential. Lubbock leads the league with 13 one-goal games this season.

Lubbock will play their first home game in consecutive nights Saturday night with a special 5:05 PM start against the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs.
