The Bisons announced Thursday the acquisition of outfielder Raul Gonzalez. Gonzalez joins the team after spending last season plus in the New York Mets organization.

Gonzalez, a 30-year old native of Carolina, Puerto Rico, began the 2004 season with the Mets' Triple-A affiliate, the Norfolk Tides. In 18 games with the Tides, he hit .262 (17-65) with one home run and six runs driven in before being released on May 17. Gonzalez started 15 of his 18 games in left field, but also made one start at right field and two more at designated hitter.

In 2003, Gonzalez hit .358 (43-120) with three home runs and 19 RBIs in 32 games with the Tides. He also made two stints with the Mets that year, where he hit .230 (50-217) with two home runs and 21 RBIs in 107 games. Gonzalez hit home run in his first Mets at bat in 2003, a solo shot of Astros' starter Roy Oswalt on April 23.

Gonzalez has played in a total of 161 Major League games with time spent in Cincinnati and Chicago (Cubs) as well. He has a .237 average with five home runs and 33 RBIs in the big leagues. The outfielder has a career .296 average in the minor leagues.
