Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

LANSING, MI -- It had been a long time. Wisconsin Timber Rattler starting pitcher Ruben Flores earned his first win since July 22, 2004 with a 4-2 victory over the Lansing Lugnuts Monday night at Oldsmobile park. Flores pitched 5-2/3 solid innings, struck out four, and got away with six walks. Luis Valbuena hit his first home run of the season and relievers Edgar Guaramato and Joe Woerman shut down the Lugnuts over the final 3-1/3 innings and Wisconsin snapped a four game losing streak.

Robby Hudson scored from third base on a wild pitch in the first inning and the Rattlers (26-38) had the early lead.

Lansing (38-25) tied the game in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single by Sean Shoffit.

Jairo Hernandez put the Rattlers back in front with a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth inning.

Valbuena blasted his first home run since August 24, 2005 in the top of the fifth inning. The two-run shot in gave the Rattlers a 4-1 lead.

Lansing got a run back in the bottom of the fifth inning on an RBI double by Jacob Butler. Flores made his way through the inning without another run.

The right hander got the first two outs of the sixth inning before walking Yuber Rodriguez. Guaramato entered the game and got the final out of the sixth.

Flores was injured shortly after that win for the Everett AquaSox in 2004 and missed all of the 2005 season while trying to rehab. He began the season in the Rattler bullpen and had made three previous starts for Wisconsin this season, but had lost all five of his decisions. Monday had a happier ending.

Guaramato struck out the side in the seventh, but got into trouble in the eighth with a lead off walk and a one out single. Wisconsin went to the bullpen again and brought out closer Joe Woerman. Woerman ended the inning on a pair of grounders back to the mound.

Woerman walked the lead off batter in the ninth, but struck out the next two batters and got a ground out to end the game and pick up his sixth save of the season. Woerman also extended his scoreless innings pitched streak to eighteen with his 1-2/3 innings of shutout work out of the bullpen.

The Rattlers and Lugnuts wrap up their four game series on Tuesday night. Paul Fagan (2-6, 4.48ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. Aaron Tressler (2-2, 1.60ERA) is slated to start for Lansing. Game time is 6:05pm CDT.
