Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
Fort Wayne, IN - Infielders Rayner Contreras and Jodam Rivera have switched roles within the San Diego Padres minor league system. Rivera was promoted to Fort Wayne and Contreras was sent to the Padres extended spring training camp in Peoria, Arizona, today.
Rivera heads to the Wizards with a two-year minor league career batting average of .261, 25 runs batted in, seven doubles and two triples. He split the 2004 season between the Peoria, Arizona Padres and the Eugene Emeralds of the Northwest League. He was limited to 24 games with the Emeralds last year because of fractured ring finger on his left hand.
Contreras appeared in 12 games at second base with the Wizards, hitting .105 with a pair of runs scored and one run batted in.
