Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

The Swing of the Quad Cities jumped on top early and never looked back Monday night at C.O. Brown Stadium, handing the Southwest Michigan Devil Rays a 10-4 loss. Kyle Sadlowski tossed the first complete game of the season for the Swing, while Colby Rasmus added three RBI and his seventh home run of the year.

Quad Cities (30-32) won their first game at C.O. Brown Stadium since May 12, 2004, having lost seven in a row following a win by the Quad City River Bandits over the Battle Creek Yankees two seasons ago. Southwest Michigan (31-33) missed an opportunity to climb back to the .500 mark after winning the first two games of the four-game series.

Sadlowski (4-1) used 95 pitches to go the distance, turning in the longest outing of the season by a Swing pitcher. Pitching with the lead for the entire game, the 21-year-old from Reading, Pennsylvania struck out two without walking a batter and induced three double plays behind him in the first five innings. Sadlowski did allow four runs on 10 hits, including solo blasts to J.T. Hall in the fourth inning and Cesar Suarez in the eighth.

Casey Rowlett went 4-for-4 for Quad Cities, as the top three spots in the Swing batting order were productive early and often. Daniel Nelson, Rowlett, and Rasmus combined to go 8-for-11 with three doubles and a home run, not to mention four runs scored and five driven in.

Looking to end their drought at C.O. Brown Stadium, the Swing got on the board early. Nelson doubled to open the ballgame and moved to third on a single by Rowlett. When Wade Davis' pickoff attempt to first snuck away from Rhyne Hughes, Nelson raced home for the 1-0 lead.

Quad Cities kept the pressure on in the second inning. A.J. Van Slyke drew a walk and scored all the way from first on a one-out triple into the right-center field gap by Luis Cotto. A sacrifice fly from Nelson brought Cotto home, but with two outs, two in, and the bases empty the rally was not over yet. Rowlett slapped a double into the right-center field alley, and trotted home on a bomb to right by Colby Rasmus. It was the second home run in as many days for Rasmus and just the second longball allowed this season by Davis, giving the Swing a 5-0 lead early.

In the fourth, heads-up and aggressive baserunning by Cotto added another tally. Standing at second base with two outs, catcher Christian Lopez caught a pitch and faked towards first base where Rowlett was standing. Noticing that nobody was covering third, Cotto broke that way and forced the defense's hand. Lopez fired down to the hot corner where the third baseman Suarez was racing back to the bag, but the throw was low and skipped away, allowing Cotto to come home for a 6-0 advantage.

The lead was 6-1 when Davis exited the game after five innings of work, but Eduardo DeLaCruz did not fare much better in the top of the sixth. A hit batsman was sandwiched between two singles, as it took the Swing just three batters to load the bases with nobody out. Rowlett's sacrifice fly brought the first runner home, a double by Rasmus scored the second run of the frame, and another sacrifice fly by Randy Roth gave Quad Cities a 9-1 edge.

Southwest Michigan tried to fight back with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth and another in the eighth, but fell short in their comeback bid. A sacrifice fly by Adam Rodgers brought Richard Giannotti home in the ninth for the final Quad Cities run, setting the score at 10-4.

Davis (4-3) was battered for the loss Monday, allowing six runs - five earned - on a season-high eight hits in five innings of work. He struck out five while walking four and allowing one home run, watching his ERA rise by half a run from 1.94 to 2.44.

UPCOMING PROMOTIONS: Not only will the homestand kickoff with a doubleheader on Thursday, but it will also be a 97 Rock/Pluckers Thirsty Thursday.
