Arizona Rattlers News Release

PHOENIX - After a dominant stand at home against the Wranglers and Knight Hawks, the Rattlers are hitting the road. They are traveling up north for a rematch of their week 10 victory over the Northern Arizona Wranglers.

This game is set for 6:05 pm on Saturday, June 3rd in Prescott Valley. The Arizona Rattlers lead the all-time series against the Wranglers 4-2, including a blowout win two weeks ago in the Footprint Center.

The Rattlers (5-4) and Wranglers (5-4) are tied for 2nd place in the West trailing the Bay Area Panthers (6-3) by just one game. It will be a heavyweight clash between two of the top teams in the West.

LAST WEEK

Last week, the Rattlers made a statement at home in their first rematch of the season, defeating the Vegas Knight Hawks, to whom the Rattlers suffered a one-point loss during their week nine game in Vegas. This game featured an outstanding performance from Arizona's defensive unit, led by Davontae Merriweather (14 tackles), and Cecil Cherry (2 sacks).

The Rattlers would end up winning the game in convincing fashion, 63-39 with the team dominating in all phases of the game.

CHASING HISTORY

After totaling four rushing touchdowns the week prior, Rattlers' QB Drew Powell only scored one rushing touchdown in last week's win against Vegas. However, this touchdown tied the Arizona Rattlers' all-time rushing touchdown record with Bo Kelley at 81. All eyes will be on Prescott Valley this weekend as Powell has a chance to take this title for himself.

TRAFFIC JAM

As the IFL is more than halfway through the regular season, the teams in the Western Conference have little room for error as they fight for playoff positioning. With only 4 spots up for grabs, six out of the seven teams are within 2 games of each other. 3 teams (Tucson Sugar Skulls, Duke City Gladiators, and Vegas Knight Hawks) are tied for the fourth and final playoff spot with a record of 4-5.

Tucson will play in Vegas this week in another crucial playoff-seeding game near the midway mark of the 2023 IFL season. The winner of this week's matchup between the Arizona Rattlers (5-4) and Northern Arizona Wranglers (5-4) will take sole possession of the second seed. The Bay Area Panthers sit alone atop the conference with a 6-3 only one game ahead of the Rattlers and Wranglers.
