Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
PEORIA, IL - The Peoria Chiefs defeated the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 2-1 in game two of Sunday's doubleheader at Dozer Park. Juan Yepez, who hit a grand slam against Wisconsin on Friday night, delivered the game-winning hit for the Chiefs.
The teams traded runs in the first inning.
Joantgel Segovia, who went 4-for-4 in the first game of the twinbill, drew a walk with one out in the top of the inning. Demi Orimoloye was next and he tripled to right-center to put the Rattlers (3-7) up 1-0.
Irving Lopez started the Peoria half of the first inning with a double and he went to third on a wild pitch. Wisconsin starter Christian Taugner struck out the next two batters, but allowed an infield single to Yepez to let Lopez in with the tying run.
Wisconsin had two almost immediate chances to retake the lead in their next two at bats.
Gilbert Lara doubled to start the second inning and Zach Clark reached on an infield single with two outs, but both runners were left stranded.
Orimoloye was hit by a pitch to start the third, but was caught stealing.
The Rattlers would only get three more base runners the remainder of the game and none of those runners made it past first base.
The Chiefs (4-5) had a great opportunity in the fifth inning as they loaded the bases with one out against Robbie Hitt, but the Rattler reliever got out of the jam with a 1-2-3 double play.
The game stayed tied into the seventh inning and it appeared to be heading for extra innings as Gabe Friese retired the first two batters he faced. Elehuris Montero kept the inning alive with a single to bring Yepez to the plate.
Yepez hit an 0-2 pitch to the gap in right-center that was out of the reach of everyone. The ball one-hopped the wall and Montero scored all the way from first without a play to allow the Chiefs to celebrate their second walkoff win of the afternoon and a sweep of the three-game series at Dozer Park.
Lara went 3-for-3 in the nightcap and 4-for-7 in the doubleheader for Wisconsin to move his hitting streak to six games. Lara has at least two hits in four of the six games during his streak.
Both teams are off on Monday before returning to action on Tuesday.
