Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
GENEVA, IL -- Three Wisconsin Timber Rattler pitchers combined on a 5-hit shutout of the Kane County Cougars Tuesday night at Elfstrom Stadium. Justin Thomas, Nick Allen, and Joe Woerman teamed up to pitch the first shutout by the Rattler pitching staff in a 4-0 victory. Jairo Hernandez had a pair of doubles and a pair of RBI to pace the Rattler offense.
The Rattlers (17-21) got on the board early. Bryan Sabatella drew a walk to start the inning. Hernandez doubled to send Sabatella to third. Jeff Dominguez gave Wisconsin a 1-0 lead with a sacrifice fly the drove in Sabatella in the top of the third.
JB Tucker tripled with one out in the top of the fourth. Eddy Hernandez singled him home. Later in the inning, Jairo Hernandez doubled in two more runs for a 4-0 Wisconsin lead.
Thomas got in trouble in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Cougars (20-18) had two on with one out. Thomas got Jose Pineda to pop out for the second out, but then he walked Justin Sellers to load the bases. The Rattler lefty got out of the jam by getting Mike Massaro to ground out to short.
Thomas pitched six innings, allowed just three hits, and struck out five before turning the game over to the bullpen.
Allen pitched a pair of scoreless innings and gave up a pair of hits.
Woerman closed out the game with a hit batsman and three strikeouts in the bottom of the ninth.
Game two of the four game series is Wednesday. Paul Fagan (1-3, 5.66ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Jason Ray (1-1, 4.40ERA) is the scheduled starter for the Cougars. Game time is 12:00pm.
