Lansing Lugnuts News Release

Burlington, IA - Carlos Rosa's return from Tommy John surgery continued on Tuesday night as he threw 6 2/3 innings of one run baseball, outdueling Lansing's Chi-Hung Cheng in a 4-1 Burlington victory at Community Field. Rosa allowed two hits in the game, the only two that the Lugnuts would get all night.

Lansing took the lead in the fourth inning when Cory Patton doubled to left field to score Sean Shoffit from first base to make the score 1-0.

The Bees scored their first two runs of the game in the fifth, when Miguel Vega homered off of the scoreboard in right-center field to give Burlington a 2-1 lead.

Burlington plated two more runs in the eighth. Ethien Santana led the inning off with a single, stole second base, and scored later on a squeeze play executed by Chris McConnell to push the lead to 3-1. McConnell later came home on a Kiel Thibault single to left field.

Cheng, Lansing's starting pitcher, had one of his best outings of the year. Cheng tossed six innings and allowed just three hits and two runs while fanning eight in the loss.

Gilbert De La Vera notched the save for Burlington, throwing the ninth and striking out three.

Lansing (23-14) falls 1/2 game behind the West Michigan Whitecaps in the Eastern Division with the loss. The Lugnuts and Burlington (15-21) will play the second game of the series on Tuesday. Kristian Bell (3-1, 4.38) will start for Lansing, while Michael Penn (1-1, 4.66) will take the hill for the Bees. First pitch is set for 12:30 p.m. EST.
