Albany River Rats News Release

ALBANY, NY - Geoff Kinrade broke a 2-2 tie midway through the third period and the Binghamton Senators held on for a 3-2 victory over the Albany River Rats on Sunday afternoon at the Times Union Center.

The sides were knotted at 1-1 after a scoreless second period, but Denis Hamel gave the B-Sens a one goal advantage at 6:50 of the third, sneaking a low shot just inside the far post for his 21st of the season. Albany responded with a short handed goal just 36 seconds later, when penalty killer Nicolas Blanchard surprised Senators goalie Chris Holt with a hard forecheck and stripped the puck free to feed Mike Angelidis for an open put-away. Binghamton reclaimed its narrow lead for good on that same power play at 8:16, when a Hamel's shot caromed on goal of River Rats defenseman Brett Bellemore and Kinrade put home the rebound.

Kaspars Daugavins found Binghamton's leading scorer Josh Hennessy at the top of the crease for the game's first goal at 5:03 of the opening period. Albany hit three posts before finally drawing even at 11:44 on the power play, when Nick Dodge threaded a pass to Jerome Samson streaking through center ice for his team-high 34th marker of the season.

Holt stopped 24-of-26 shots faced in the contest to earn the win as the Senators improved to 31-32-5-3 this season. Albany goalie Mike Morrison turned aside 23-of-26 shots in a losing effort as the River Rats dropped their third straight game and fell to 38-27-3-5 this year. Both teams recorded 26 shots in the game and the B-Sens went 1-for-4 on the power play, while Albany was 1-for-5 on the man-advantage.

Albany returns to action this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in Glens Falls for game 10 of the Time Warner Cable Cup. River Rats 2010 Calder Cup playoff packages are now on sale at the River Rats executive offices at the Times Union Center, by calling (518) 487-2244 or by logging onto www.albanyriverrats.com.
