Abbotsford Heat News Release

TORONTO ON - The Toronto Marlies hosted the Abbotsford Heat and `Support the Troops' Day at the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto on Sunday afternoon and nationwide on the CBC. Ryan Hamilton would score in the last minute of the third and then shorthanded in overtime to stun the Heat 2-1.

After a scoreless first period, Gord Baldwin opened the scoring for Abbotsford. Baldwin's 50 foot wrist shot past a screened James Reimer opened the scoring for the Heat at 5:20 of the second period. For Baldwin it was his fourth goal if the season and gave his team a 1-0 lead heading to the third period.

In the third, with the net empty in the final minute, Hamilton was able to find a loose puck and stuff it by Heat goalie David Shantz with the Toronto net empty to tie the game at 1-1 with just 48 seconds remaining. Hamilton's 12th of the season sent the game to the extra frame.

In OT, both teams had chances and both teams had power play opportunities as well. In the end, Toronto captain Ben Ondrus banked a pass off the boards and to a streaking Hamilton, sending him in alone shorthanded. Hamilton would pull the trigger and beat Shantz high to the blocker to secure the win for the Marlies.
