Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

Colby Rasmus has been promoted to the Palm Beach Cardinals of the High-A Florida State League, the Swing of the Quad Cities announced in conjunction with the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday. The 28th overall pick in the 2005 draft, Rasmus had picked up in the second half right where he left off in the first, hitting .349 with three home runs since the All-Star break.

The 19-year-old center fielder overcame a 2-for-30 start to the season to hit .310 (ninth in the Midwest League) in 78 games with the Swing, adding 11 home runs (T-5th), 50 runs driven in (T-5th), 22 doubles, and 17 stolen bases. He recorded 28 multi-hit games, while boasting separate hitting streaks of 11 and 12 games. During the 11-game stretch from April 19-May 1, Rasmus batted .442 with nine multi-hit games, four home runs, 12 runs scored, and 12 RBI. The Cardinals' top pick in the 2005 draft joins former Swing outfielder Wes Swackhamer, catcher Brandon Yarbrough, and pitcher Jaime Garcia in receiving promotions to Palm Beach in 2006.

As Rasmus' roster spot has not yet been filled, the Swing of the Quad Cities current roster stands at 24 active players, one below the maximum allowed by the Midwest League. An updated roster accompanies this release.
