Rascals Tie Franchise Record With 51st Win

River City Rascals News Release


O'FALLON, MO - Stephen Flake struck out a season high 11 and the Rascals used a five run fifth inning to breeze past the Grizzlies 8-5 Sunday night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. The victory was number 51 for River City, tying the franchise record set in 2004.

River City (51-37) scored five times in the fifth against Nathan Melek (4-9). Chris Colton led off with his 17th home run to tie the game at three. JoJo Batten and Ernie Banks both doubled home two runs to put the Rascals up 7-3.

Flake fanned a Rascal best 11 hitters and allowed five runs on seven hits in six plus innings. The Grizzlies scored three of their runs in the third. Lisk slammed a solo home run and Breck Draper doubled home Joe Agreste to give Gateway a 2-1 lead. Alex Kerins added an RBI single to push the lead up 3-1.

Gateway (37-53) closed the gap late on another Draper RBI double in the sixth and on a Jonathan Quigley solo home run in the seventh to make it 7-5.

Brent Solich worked the final two frames for his first save of the season, allowing only one hit and striking out one in the process.

Josh Banda had the lone multi-hit game with two hits while Batten and Banks each knocked in a pair in the victory.

Melek lasted 4.2 innings surrendering seven runs on six hits while seven strikeouts and one walk for his ninth loss.

The Rascals will attempt to eclipse the franchise record in wins Tuesday night when Evansville comes to town for a three game set. Quinn Monsma (0-1) will make his second start of the season. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
