Tennessee Valley Raptors News Release

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Tennessee Valley Raptors have added another former Alabama A&M Bulldog to their roster.

Coach Dick Adams announced Tuesday that wide receiver Durrell Weekley, the Bulldogs' third-leading receiver in 2003, has signed with the Raptors. He becomes the sixth former Alabama A&M player to join Tennessee Valley as it heads towards the opening of training camp March 1.

"Durrell came in to the tryout camp as a receiver and ran some good routes and showed some good hands,'' Adams said. "We're happy to have him and have another local guy that's had some success at Alabama A&M."

Weekley played in nine games for the Bulldogs during his 2003 senior season, catching 22 passes for 296 yards and two touchdowns. He had a team-long 55-yard catch and finished sixth on the squad in all-purpose yards.

The Raptors open the inaugural 2005 United Indoor Football season at Evansville on March 19 and play their first home game versus the Tupelo FireAnts on April 16 at the Von Braun Center. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

UIF sets championship game: United Indoor Football has announced that the league's first championship game will be played on August 13 at a site to be determined. Eight of the league's 12 teams will compete for the title of champion beginning immediately following the regular season on July 23.

The playoffs will consist of three total rounds with the semifinals held the weekend of July 29. The championship game will be hosted by the team with the best overall record between the two competing teams.

"Eight of our member teams had winning records last season and all 12 have a legitimate chance to win the UIF championship this season," UIF executive director Dakota Crow said. "We think our fans will be very happy with our format, which should make for a fantastic first postseason."
