Ogden Raptors News Release
IDAHO FALLS - The Ogden Raptors (1-2, 20-21) committed five errors in the first three innings, and failed to score a run after the second inning, falling 8-2 to the Idaho Falls Chukars (2-1, 15-26) on Thursday night. The five errors were a single-game season high.
Willie Calhoun had a double and a single, and is now eight for his last twelve at the plate. Calhoun was the only Raptor with a multi-hit night. Garrett Kennedy drove in one run with an RBI single and Faustino Oguisten grounded into an RBI fielder's choice.
Michael Boyle started for Ogden, and gave up five runs (three earned) on eight hits over 2 1/3 innings. The eight hits were a season-high for Boyle, and he also committed two errors on the mound.
The Chukars began their offensive onslaught in the first. After DJ Burt singled and moved to second on a pickoff throwing error by Boyle, Roman Collins reached on an error by Scott De Jong, scoring Burt. Ogden also committed two errors in the second, leading to two runs capped off by an Amalani Fukofuka RBI single. Idaho Falls also scored two in the third, two in the sixth, and one in the eighth.
Daniel Concepcion started for Idaho Falls and gave up two unearned runs on five hits. The right-hander came into the game on a nine inning scoreless streak, and stretched that streak to ten before the Raptors scored two in the second.
De Jong came into the game riding a 17-game hitting streak, but went 0-3 with a walk on the night. Kevin Brown pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of Boyle, and Corey Copping, who still has not given up an earned run through four innings of work, pitched a scoreless seventh.
The two teams will play the final game of this two game series in Idaho Falls Friday before the series shifts to Ogden on Saturday. Ivan Vieitez (0-2, 6.57 ERA) will go for Ogden, while Todd Eaton (2-3, 6.35 ERA) gets the ball for the home team at 7:15 MT.
