Owlz Fall Short in Comeback, Lose 9-7.
July 31, 2015 - Pioneer League (PL)
Northern Colorado Owlz News Release
OREM - The Orem Owlz scored five runs in the final two innings of play but fell just short in their comeback losing to the Grand Junction Rockies 9-7. With the Rockies leading 9-2, the Owlz recorded four hits with their first five batters to climb their way back into the game. That set the stage for catcher, Angel Genao, who hit his first triple for the Owlz this season knocking in two runs. Orem had some opportunities again in the 9th, but Ranyelmy Alberto was thrown out at the plate to end the game.
The Rockies pitching led the way from the get-go as starting pitcher, Peter Lambert, went 3 and two thirds giving up no hits and no earned while striking out four. He dropped his ERA on the season down to 0.84.
Joe Gatto gave up nine hits and four earned but had flashes of brilliance as he struck out four straight batters to end the first and start the second innings. He picked up the loss though as he drops to 0-3 on the season with an ERA of 5.03.
The Owlz took advantage of the Rockies bullpen tonight but it ended up being a little too late. Although outhitting the Rockies 15-14, they fell short in the run department to drop to 1-2 on the second half of the season.
Make sure to come to the ballpark tomorrow night for Boy Scout Night and an on-field campout afterwards. The game can be watched on KPDR-19 or heard on audio.oremowlz.com.
