Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release
On Thursday night at Brent Brown Ballpark, Sam Hilliard homered, singled and walked, but his arm turned out to be just important. With the Orem Owlz rallying in the ninth inning, the Rockies rightfielder threw out Ranyelmy Alberto at the plate, sealing a 9-7 win.
Grand Junction led 9-2 going into the bottom of the eighth, but the Owlz scored four in the in the eighth, and had already scored a run in the ninth before Brendan Sanger's hit on which Alberto was thrown out on. Had he scored, Orem would've had the tying run in scoring postion, instead the Rockies improve to 2-1 in the second half.
Collin Ferguson put the Rockies on the board when he doubled home Brendan Rodgers in the first inning. Then Hilliard made it 3-0 when he followed with his third home run of the season. In the second inning, the Rockies rallied with two out to score a run. Jonathan Piron tripled, which was followed by Rodgers' second hit of the night.
It would be the sixth inning until anyone scored again as Chris Keck started the inning with his third home run of the season to put the Rockies up five, but Orem answered with a pair in the bottom of the inning to make the score 5-2 Rockies, and after that, it looked like the Rockies put the game away in the seventh.
Jensen Park followed walks to Ferguson and Hilliard with an RBI single, that plated Ferguson. Hilliard and Park advanced into scoring position on the throw to the plate, and Keck made it 8-2 with a 2-run single. Then Cole Anderson started the eighth inning with a triple and scored the Rockies ninth run of the night when Jonathan Piron grounded out.
Orem had the tying run at the plate in the eighth inning after scoring four runs off Hunter Brothers, but Sam Thoele recorded the last two outs, and was on the mound when Hilliard threw out Alberto for his fourth save.
Keck had three hits for the second time this season, while Rodgers, Park, and Hilliard added a pair.
