Raptors Drop Opener at Great Falls

GREAT FALLS, MT - The Ogden Raptors continued their struggles on their second Montana road trip, mustering just six hits and three late runs in falling, 10-3, at the Great Falls Voyagers.
It was a return to the site where the Raptors won their first-ever Pioneer League championship in September 2017, and the game looked more like the first game of the championship doubleheader rather than the clinching second contest of the twinbill.
Great Falls opened the first with a triple and scored on a groundout, and a double and two-out single knocked in a run in the third. The fourth inning saw another Voyagers leadoff extra-base hit, with a high bouncer over a drawn-in infield with the runner on third making it 3-0.
In the sixth, Ogden's bullpen fell apart. The first seven Voyagers reached base and the hosts ended up batting around and scoring seven to go up by 10.
The Raptors had chances to score in the first two innings, but Daniel Robinson was stranded after a one-out double in the first and two runners reached with two out in the second, but to no avail. The next Ogden runner reached in the sixth, ending a string of 11 retired in a row.
The visitors finally broke their goose egg streak in the seventh, when James Outman smoked a triple off the right-center wall and scored on a Jon Littell groundout.
Eric Peterson also tripled, his leading off the eighth, and he jogged across when Robinson grounded to second base to make it 10-2.
In the ninth the Raptors loaded the bases with no one out, and Ronny Brito, who singled to open the frame, scored on a Littell sacrifice fly for the final run.
After losing three of four in Billings and the first in Great Falls, the best Ogden can do in the seven-game trip is 3-4. They'll play the sixth game of the trip, and second in Great Falls at 7:00 Tuesday night.
