Raptors 905 guard/forward Axel Toupane had a game-high 30 points to lead the Mississauga club to a 106-96 victory over the Erie BayHawks Wednesday at Hershey Centre in front of 5,195 fans. The win was Raptors 905's franchise-record fifth straight.
Raptors 905 led 26-18 after a back-and-forth first quarter. In the second period, the Mississauga club went up by 25 points late in quarter with a 20-2 run before the BayHawks drew back to within 18 by halftime, 56-38. The teams battled to a 27-27 draw in the third quarter, keeping Raptors 905 ahead 18 heading into the final frame. In the fourth, Erie went on an 18-4 run in the final five minutes to draw the game within single digits, but Raptors 905 restored the double-digit lead in the last minute to secure the win.
Alongside Toupane in double-digit points for Raptors 905 were Greg Smith (16), Scott Suggs (13), Ronald Roberts Jr. (10) and Sim Bhullar (10). Norman Powell had a game-high six assists and Lucas Nogueira recorded a game-high five blocked shots. The BayHawks were led offensively by Adreian Payne (26), Jordan Sibert (24) and Nnanna Egwu (14). Egwu and Roberts Jr. shared the game high in rebounds with nine each.
Raptors 905 led Erie in field goal percentage (58.3-50.6), three-point percentage (34.8-26.3), points in the paint (62-36) and fast-break points (17-12), while the BayHawks held the advantage in free throw percentage (72.2-70.0) and second-chance points (14-8).
Raptors 905 is back in action Friday, January 29 when the club visits the Delaware 87ers at 7 p.m.
