
Rapidz suffer sweep in finale loss

(OTTAWA, ON) Wednesday, July 23, 2008 - Trying to avoid the series sweep, the Ottawa Rapidz battled the Atlantic City Surf Wednesday night at Rapidz Stadium in front of 1,663 fans. Despite the 13-3 loss, fans enjoyed a concert by acclaimed country band Ambush sponsored by Y101.
Picking up the win for the Surf was J.C. Huguet (7-2) allowing only two runs (both earned) on six hits, with no walks and four strikeouts in 6.0 innings pitched. For the Rapidz, Tanner Watson (1-4) was credited with the loss, pitching 6.0 innings, allowing seven runs (four earned) on eight hits, with three walks and two strikeouts.
The Rapidz began the scoring in the bottom of the first inning thanks to Juan Infante and Jabe Bergeron who both doubled and scored to give Ottawa an early 2-0 lead.
Atlantic City answered right back in the top of the next inning. Josh Burrus singled, Joe Burke doubled and William Plaza tripled producing two runs for the Surf tying the game at two.
The Surf continued their scoring into the fourth, scoring two more runs on a double, an error, a walk and a RBI sacrifice fly to take a 4-2 lead.
The visitors blew the game wide open in the seventh inning, chasing Ottawa starter Tanner Watson from the game. The Surf sent 11 batters to the plate, producing five runs on four hits and a 9-2 lead after seven and a half innings.
After a rain delay of an hour and five minutes, the Surf added four more runs and Jabe Bergeron hit his team-leading seventh homerun for the Rapidz for a final score of 13-3.
The Rapidz begin the second series of their six-game home stand Friday, July 25 at 7:05 against the New Jersey Jackals. Ottawa native Mike Kusiewicz (2-5, 3.61 ERA) will start for the Rapidz against Ted Serro (2-1, 4.17 ERA) for the Jackals. Friday will also feature "Support Our Troops Night" at Rapidz Stadium where all fans are encouraged to wear red to show their support for our brave troops.
