Colorado Rapids News Release

COMMERCE CITY, COLO. (Tuesday, December 2, 2008) - The Colorado Rapids announced today that the team will open their 14th Major League Soccer season in 2009 on the road against Chivas USA on Saturday, March 21 and will host the Kansas City Wizards in their home opener at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Saturday, March 28.

The Colorado Rapids' complete MLS schedule will be released at a later date.

After opening at home for the first game of the season the last two years, the Rapids will begin 2009 playing Chivas USA at The Home Depot Center. The game will kick off at 8:30 p.m. MT and will be broadcast nationally on Fox Soccer Channel. It will be the fourth consecutive year that Colorado play their season opener on national television.

The following weekend, the Rapids will return to the friendly confines of Dick's Sporting Goods Park to host the Kansas City Wizards at 7:30 p.m. MT. Colorado hold an 8-2-3 all-time record in home openers and are 2-0-0 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Last year, the Rapids defeated the LA Galaxy 4-0 in front of a then-record crowd of 18,713 fans.

Single game tickets for the Rapids' 2009 Opening Day will not go on sale until at least February of next year, so the best way fans can assure their spot at the first major event of the Rapids' next season in Colorado is by securing their season ticket plan or holiday package today by calling the Colorado Rapids at (303) 825-GOAL or by purchasing their package online at ColoradoRapids.com.

The just-unveiled Rapids Holiday Pack is currently on sale now just in time for the holidays, and feature tickets to both of the first two Rapids home games of the season, as well a $50 gift card to any Dick's Sporting Goods store, all for only $99.
