Toronto FC News Release
Everyone at Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment is saddened to learn of the passing of Ted Rogers. Our deepest sympathies go out to his wife Loretta, his children and their entire family.
Mr. Rogers was a friend, ally and partner of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment. He was a pioneer in the broadcast and cable services industries.
Mr. Rogers created the great Canadian success story with Rogers Communications Inc. building Rogers into an organization that has changed the way Canadians live, work and receive their information everyday. He built a family business into a national brand that will continue to resonate with Canadians for years to come.
Mr. Rogers will always be remembered as a supporter of sports in the city as evident when he purchased the Toronto Blue Jays in 2000, effectively integrating his media and sports businesses. Earlier this year, he played a role in bringing the NFL's Buffalo Bills to Toronto to play eight home games for the next five years. Mr. Rogers also served on the Board of Directors of Maple Leaf Gardens Ltd. in the 1990s.
With all of his business successes and accomplishments, his legacy will be his numerous philanthropic, charitable and community initiatives that benefited Toronto and many areas of life that Mr. Rogers was passionate about including the arts, education and healthcare.
Mr. Rogers will be missed dearly by all who knew him. All of us at Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment feel blessed to have been among those so privileged to have known and worked with him.
