Commerce City, Colo. (April 5, 2011) ‚¬" Conor Casey has had some pretty special memories playing professional soccer. On Wednesday, he ‚¬â„¢ll add a new exciting moment in a different sport.

Casey will throw out the ceremonial ‚¬Å“first pitch ‚¬Â at the Colorado Rockies game against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Coors Field.

‚¬Å“It ‚¬â„¢s awesome, ‚¬Â Casey told ColoradoRapids.com. ‚¬Å“I remember their inaugural year when I was a young kid and have been watching them since. It ‚¬â„¢s just exciting to be able to throw out the first pitch period, and to do it for the home team is awesome. It ‚¬â„¢s a once in a lifetime chance. ‚¬Â

Casey and his Rapids teammates will be recognized by the Rockies prior to the game for winning the 2010 MLS Cup championship. Casey was named the final ‚¬â„¢s Most Valuable Player for scoring the tying goal against Dallas and setting up the eventually game-winner in overtime.

A graduate of Denver South High School, Casey was a pitcher on his little league baseball team growing up. On Wednesday, he ‚¬â„¢ll have to throw the ball from the pitcher ‚¬â„¢s mound some 60 feet to home plate, which is 12 inches wide.

‚¬Å“The pressure is on but I ‚¬â„¢m hoping I ‚¬â„¢ll get it there, ‚¬Â he said, smiling. ‚¬Å“I have a lot of buddies that played in high school that still play now so I ‚¬â„¢m going to go practice with them today. I gotta get it over the plate, that ‚¬â„¢s the key. ‚¬Â

The Rockies join the Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, and Denver Broncos in recognizing the Rapids' 2010 title run. All the Rapids players, coaches, and front office staff have been invited to attend the game, which begins at 1:10 pm MT.

While looking forward to the first pitch opportunity, Casey's enthusiasm is somewhat tapered as he confirmed that the pulled left hamstring he sustained in Sunday ‚¬â„¢s 4-1 win over DC United will keep him out of action for a couple of weeks.

The first-place Rapids, who are 3-0-0 for the first time in team history, travel to Texas to face FC Dallas for the first time since MLS Cup this Friday at 7 pm MT live on FOX Soccer and FOX Deportes. The team's next home match is on Friday, April 22 against the Seattle Sounders at 7:30 pm.
