COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Friday, March 23, 2012) - Colorado Rapids Academy midfielder Dillon Serna, a native of Brighton, Colo., and member of the Rapids U-18 Team, has been named to the United States Under-18 National Team for a training camp in California running from March 25 to April 1. Also on the U.S. U-18's roster is Antonio Murillo of Rapids Alliance club Downtown Las Vegas Rapids.
"Dillon has been a standout player for our Academy, and has improved his game by working hard while training with our first team," said Rapids Technical Director Paul Bravo. "We're pleased that both he and Tony Murillo, another talented player in our system, will get this opportunity to impress the coaches on the National Team staff."
Serna, who turns 18 on Sunday, has been part of the Rapids Academy for three years and has committed to play college soccer at the University of Akron, which won an NCAA Division I championship in 2010. A member of the U.S. team that played at the 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Mexico, Serna has played in Reserve Team matches for the Rapids throughout 2011 and into 2012. Murillo, 17, has been in the Rapids system for two years, and has participated with Rapids teams at several U-17 events.
The Rapids visit the New York Red Bulls this Sunday, March 25, with the game being broadcast live on ESPN at 2:00 p.m. MT. The team will then host the Chicago Fire on Sunday, April 1 at 5:00 p.m. at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
