
Rapid City Falls For The First Time In Regulation

The Rapid City Rush came into the hockey game unbeaten in regulation but left Oklahoma City with a 4-3 loss to the Oklahoma City Blazers. The game was a special teams battle as there were a combined 113 penalty minutes and five power-play goals scored.
Rapid City was able to score the opening tally as Les Reaney scored at the 12:29 mark of the first with Gio Flamminio and Rich Hansen getting the assists. Flamminio took a shot from the point that squeaked through Blazers goaltender Andy Franck and Reaney was able to poke it home for the power-play goal. The Blazers were able to even the score with a power-play goal of their own at the 18:13 mark of the first. Scoring the goal was Bill Vandermeer with Marty Standish and Tyler Fleck picking up the assists. At the end of the first, Oklahoma City led in shots by a 20 to 17 margin.
In the second frame, the Blazers were able to take a two-goal lead as Jeff McDermid and Jason Murfitt were able to tally goals. Both goals were even strength markers as Marty Standish assisted on the first with Simon Lambert and Justin Sawyer assisting on the second. Rich Hansen was able to make it a one-goal contest at the 8:21 mark as Gio Flamminio and Les Reaney assisted on the power-play goal. Oklahoma City extended their lead as Lambert got his second point of the game at the 11:57 mark with Fleck and Murfitt gathering the assists. The shots for the second period favored the Blazers as they held the advantage 12-6.
Rapid City was able to make it a one-goal contest just 3:14 into the final stanza as Hansen notched a power-play goal from Derek LeBlanc and reigning CHL Player of the Week, Chris Lipsett. Although the Rush scored early, they were unable to find the equalizer and the gane ended with the Blazers on top 4-3.
Rich Hansen paced all skaters with two goals and one assist good enough for three points on the night. Hansen now has 16 points on the year and continues to lead the CHL in scoring.
Rush goaltender Miguel Beaudry made 39 saves on 43 shots from Oklahoma City in the loss. On the other end, last week's CHL Goaltender of the Week, Andy Franck stopped 28 of Rapid City's 31 shots. There were a total of 50 calls made in the game and all were minors with the exception on one fighting major and game misconduct on Robin Gomez of Oklahoma City.
Rapid City went 3-for-15 with the man-advantage while the Blazers were 2-for-17 on the night.Rapid City moves to 1-1-4 on the year, good enough for a tie for second in the Northwest division. Up next for Rapid City are the Wichita Thunder on Sunday at 5:05 central time.
