
Blazers hang on to clip IceRays 2-1

Goaltender Andy Franck made 21 saves on 22 shots in net for the Oklahoma City Blazers on Saturday Night to help edge the Corpus Christi IceRays 2-1 at the American Bank Center. The IceRays dropped their second straight one-goal game and fifth in a row as their record fell to 1-5 on the year. The Blazers remain unbeaten in regulation this season improving to 6-0-2. The IceRays now head on the road for four straight games beginning Wednesday Night in New Mexico.
The only goal of the first period came shorthanded for the Oklahoma City Blazers. Simon Lambert scored on a shorthanded break and sneaking the puck underneath Dustin Traylen for the first goal of the game at 4:46. The Blazers outshot the IceRays 14-13 in the frame. The Blazers added another goal in the second period when Ted Vandermeer scooped up a loose puck in the slot and lifted a shot over Traylen at 6:32 to extend the Blazers lead to 2-0. The IceRays cut the deficit in half and pulled within a goal at 7:40 of the third period when John McNabb scored his first as an IceRay on a five on three power play. The IceRays pulled their netminder with a power play late and threw everything they had at Franck but couldn't find the equalizer. Traylen (0-3) took the loss making 33 saves on 35 shots while Andy Franck (6-0-2) earned the win with 21 saves on 22 shots. The IceRays power play went 1-10 while the Blazers went 0-5 on the man advantage. The Blazers outshot the IceRays 35-22. The IceRays hit the road next week to begin a four-game road trip. They return to the American Bank Center on Nov. 15 to host the Amarillo Gorillas at 7:05pm.
