Laredo Bucks News Release

HIDALGO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 3-1 Saturday night, in front of 4,897 fans at the Dodge Arena. The loss ended Laredo's four game winning streak, and drops them to 5-3 (10pts), Rio Grande Valley meanwhile, improves to 5-0 to continue their best start in team history.

The Killer Bees scored two third period goals (one empty netter) to break a 1-1 tie, and to take their second straight game against the Bucks this season.

Rio took the lead for good just 3:00 into the third period, when Trevor Weisgerber took a feed from Travis Banga on a two-on-two in the Laredo end, and flicked a shot past Sebastien Centomo to make it 2-1.

Laredo had plenty of chances to tie the game in the third period, but hit the crossbar, and the post two separate times.

Banga would add an empty net goal with 33 seconds left to seal the deal for Rio, and make it 3-1.

Centomo (4-2) stopped 45 of 48 Killer Bee shots in the loss for Laredo, while Christian Boucher set aside 37 of 38 Laredo shots to pick up his first win in net this season.

The Bucks (2-2 on the road) jumped out in front of the Killer Bees in the first period, as they once again struck on the power-play.

Rookie defenseman Mike Gooch scored his first professional goal, as he re-directed a laser pass from Jeff Bes right in front of the Killer Bee net, and tipped it past Rio's goaltender Christian Boucher on the power-play. It was Bes' team-leading 11th assist on the season. Darryl Smith (4th)also picked up an assist on the tally.

The Bucks were outshot in the first period 16-13.

The Killer Bees would tie the game up at 1-1, just 3:23 into the second period. Travis Banga scored on a great individual effort, as he took the puck behind the Bucks net to the far right circle, and sent a snap shot over Sebastien Centomo's shoulder and into the back of the net. It was Banga's first goal of the season.

Neither team could stay out of the penalty box in the second period, as each team was whistled for 13 minutes of penalties, including five four fighting.

The Bucks were outshot for the second straight period, this time by a count of 12-10.

Laredo was outshot in the game, 48-38, and went 1-8 on the power-play, as did the Killer Bees.
