Rank Sets SPHL Record for Single Season Shutouts

When Kyle Rank stopped all 32 shots against and blanked the Mississippi RiverKings on Sunday, the Peoria Rivermen goaltender broke the SPHL record for shutouts in a season with six. Previously, the record had been held by Louisiana's Riley Gill, who collected five shutouts just one year ago.
"This is been a very surreal season for me," Rank said. "Not only playing for two different teams, but being able to play my style of hockey on both. It's been a great experience and I've been very fortunate."
When initially told he was the new SPHL record holder for single season shutouts, Rank replied: "Wow, are you kidding? That's pretty cool! I had no idea."
This past weekend, the Islip, New York native filed a pair of shutouts in two starts and stopped all 65 shots he faced. In addition, Rank has gone a whopping 142:30 without allowing a goal and is 6-0-0 in his last six starts with a 1.00 goals against average, .969 save percentage and three shutouts during that span.
Overall, the 26-year-old leads the league with a 1.64 goals against average and .948 saves rate. He is 14-5-0 on the season and 9-4-0 with the Rivermen since being traded from the Fayetteville FireAntz on Dec. 18 for future considerations.
The Rivermen begin a three-game road trip on Friday with a 7:05 p.m. CST puck drop against the Mississippi Surge at the Mississippi Coastal Coliseum.
