Cottonmouths Split Weekend; Play 4 this Week

COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Columbus Cottonmouths split a pair of home games over the past weekend, defeating Knoxville 4-1 on Friday night but dropping a 7-4 decision against Louisiana on Saturday night. The Snakes enter this week's action in eighth place in the SPHL standings. The Cottonmouths have a busy week this week with four games, two at home and two on the road. Three of the four games are against the Fayetteville FireAntz with a home game on Friday and road games at Fayetteville on Tuesday and Saturday, followed by a Sunday matinee against the Mississippi RiverKings to round out the week. All games are broadcast on America One Networks with both a video and audio feed, with a nominal fee for each game. A free audio-only webcast of the games is also available. Tuesday, February 18 / Saturday, February 22 - Columbus at Fayetteville, 7:05 PM EST (Season Series vs. FAY: 4-2-0)

The Snakes will make two trips to North Carolina this week to take on the Fayetteville FireAntz at the Crown Coliseum. Fayetteville started the season series 2-0-1 against the Cottonmouths before dropping the last three games between the two teams. In fact, goaltender Kyle Rank, who has since moved on to the Peoria Rivermen (and defeated the Snakes twice on February 7 and 8 in Peoria), was in net for both Fayetteville wins against the Snakes.

Friday, February 21 - Fayetteville at Columbus, 7:30 PM EST

The FireAntz make their third and final trip to the Snake Pit on Friday night. Columbus has defeated Fayetteville in the other two games at the Civic Center to date: a 3-2 shootout win on November 22 and a 5-2 victory on January 18.

Sunday, February 23 - Mississippi RiverKings at Columbus, 4:00 PM EST (Season Series vs. MRK: 0-1-2)

The Snakes host the Mississippi RiverKings in a Sunday matinee this weekend in search of their first win of the season against the 'Kings. The Cottonmouths face off against the RiverKings twice more in the regular season with a March 1 home contest and a March 11 road game in Southaven, Miss.

COTTONMOUTHS WEEK IN REVIEW

Friday, February 14 - Knoxville 1 at Columbus 4 (Attendance: 2,541)

The Knoxville Ice Bears scored the first goal of the game before the Snakes sprang back with four unanswered goals to win going away 4-1. Nielsson Arcibal led the way with a pair of goals and also tallied an assist. Jordan Draper scored the game-winning goal and Preston Shupe notched an insurance marker as well. Andrew Loewen stopped 26 of 27 shots on goal to pick up the win in net for the Cottonmouths, while Knoxville's Bryan Hince made 33 saves on 37 shots in the losing effort between the pipes for the Ice Bears. Both teams scored once on the power play with Columbus going 1 for 5 with the man advantage and Knoxville 1 for 6.

Saturday, February 15 - Louisiana 7 at Columbus 4 (Attendance: 4,361)

The Snakes put four goals on the board for the second straight night, but this time, the opponents scored seven as the Louisiana IceGators took the 7-4 win over Columbus. Tory Allen, Jordan Draper, Jason Gray, and Preston Shupe were the goal scorers for the Snakes, with Gray's goal the Cottonmouths' league-leading tenth shorthanded goal of the season. Curtis Martinu started the game in goal for Columbus and stopped 33 of 39 shots on goal prior to being ejected for an altercation with Louisiana goaltender Kiefer Smiley. Smiley picked up the win, stopping 27 of 30 shots on goal. Andrew Loewen and Matt Zenzola relieved Martinu and Smiley respectively, with Loewen stopping the only shot he faced and Zenzola allowing a goal in the only shot he faced.

THREE STARS OF THE WEEK

1. F Nielsson Arcibal - Arcibal tallied two goals and an assist on Friday night and picked up another assist on Saturday.

2. F Preston Shupe - Shupe scored the game-winner on Friday night along with two assists and tallied another goal and an assist on Saturday.

3. F Jordan Draper - Draper scored a goal each night on Friday and Saturday.
