CHARLOTTE, NC, September 14, 2004 - The Charlotte Checkers hockey club announced today that it has extended its affiliation agreement with the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League and their AHL affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack.

Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather, Hartford Wolf Pack General Manager Jim Schoenfeld, Checkers President Jeff Longo, and Checkers Head Coach Derek Wilkinson, agreed upon the extension which will see Charlotte icing top quality prospects who will develop their game in the Queen City.

"I'm looking forward to working closely with both Tom Renney and Ryan McGill," said Coach Wilkinson. "We are fortunate to have the relationship that we do and I think both players and fans stand to benefit."

"The Checkers are doing a fine job developing players for the future," said Wolf Pack General Manager Jim Schoenfeld. "We were very pleased to see the progress of players such as Lucas Lawson, Ryan Cuthbert, and Brandon Cullen, who all made a positive contribution to the team."

The Charlotte Checkers have been affiliated with the Rangers for 11 years. Players such as 2004 AHL MVP Jason LaBarbera, Benoit Dusablon, and Richard Scott, have worn the Checkers jersey before heading to the AHL and then the Rangers.
