September 15, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Connecticut Whale News Release
Hartford, September 15, 2004: Members of the Hartford Wolf Pack and special celebrity guests from the New York Rangers will join golf and hockey aficionados for the fifth annual Golf for Kids tournament being held at the TPC River Highlands course in Cromwell on Tuesday, October 12.
Last year, the team helped raise more than $26,000 for The Children's Home in Cromwell. The tournament is hoping to top the $100,000-mark this year, with $80,000 donated thus far in the first four years of play. This year, New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather is scheduled to play, as is Assistant General Manager and Vice President of Player Personnel Don Maloney. All members of the Hartford Wolf Pack will play, including coaches Ryan McGill, Nick Fotiu, and General Manager Jim Schoenfeld.
"This is a terrific way for us to kick off both our hockey season and our season of charitable contributions," said Schoenfeld. "The Wolf Pack are committed to positive community efforts. This is just one small way we can give back to the community that supports us."
The Children's Home, located in Cromwell, Connecticut, is a full-service treatment center, providing residential treatment, special education and outpatient therapy services for struggling children and their families. The Home has cared for those in need since 1900.
The Hartford Wolf Pack Community Foundation also recently granted funds to two other community groups: the Boy Scouts of America - CT Rivers Council, who will use the $5,000 grant to further develop an urban scouting program; and the DiLoreta Magnet School in New Britain, which will use its $2,500 grant to help construct a playscape at the school for use by both students and neighborhood children.
The mission of the Hartford Wolf Pack Community Foundation is to help fund charitable and non-profit endeavors that offer support to inner-city youth, amateur sport, and promote the health, education and well being of Connecticut's children.
The AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack hockey club is part of Madison Square Garden LP. Cablevision Systems Corporation owns a controlling interest in MSG LP, which also includes the New York Rangers (NHL), New York Knicks (NBA), the New York Liberty (WNBA), the MSG Network, Fox Sports Net and the Madison Square Garden arena complex.
