Hamilton Bulldogs News Release

The Hamilton Bulldogs are proud to announce the launch of 'Healthy HABits', a broad based community relations program, which is geared specifically to the promotion of healthy living, physical activity and healthy eating.

The Bulldogs 'Healthy HABits' program is in partnership with 'Week of the Child & Youth',

City of Hamilton Public Health & Community Services Department, Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board, Investors Group, The Hamilton Spectator Summer Camp Fund, Hamilton Entertainment and Convention Facilities Inc. (H.E.C.F.I.) and 102.9 K-Lite FM.

"On behalf of our Chairman and Majority Owner Michael Andlauer the Bulldogs are proud and priviledged to have worked with such committed partners to create a fundraising and healthy living program which should have a long lasting, positive impact on our community," said Hamilton Bulldogs Executive Director of Operations Brian Lewis.

Healthy HABits ties into current Ontario Health and Physical Education Curriculum guidelines in the promotion of building healthy schools through recreational and healthy living practices, and assist with the existing fundraising needs of individual schools.

"This is such an exciting partnership with the Bulldogs, to promote a positive message to the children and youth in our community by those that also led by example, about the importance of healthy eating and being physically active," said Jane Kawamura, a Public Health Nurse, who represents the City of Hamilton Public Health & Community Services and 'Week of the Child & Youth'.

The fundraising will involve each student generating pledges and sponsorships based on their participation. There will be escalating incentives for hitting increasing levels of sponsorship. Students will then participate in a physically interactive event at the school.

Debbie Sprentz, a Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) Program Effectiveness Team Consultant said, "Healthy HABits is an excellent way for students to be active and have fun, and for schools to promote the importance of healthy active lifestyles."

"As a Hamilton Bulldogs player who concentrates on physical fitness I am extremely excited about this community program that I know will help children and their schools in Hamilton and the surrounding area," stated Bulldogs' forward and Healthy HABits spokesperson Duncan Milroy.

The Hamilton Bulldogs will launch the program by visiting area schools as part of the "WOW Campaign", and put on 'Healthy HABits' demonstrations geared towards healthy living for students. To recognize 'Week of the Child & Youth', all 'Healthy HABits' events will occur between October 15 and October 22.
