Dallas Stars assign four players to Hamilton

The NHL's Dallas Stars announced today they have assigned goaltender Dan Ellis, defenceman Trevor Daley, as well as forwards Steve Ott and Antti Miettinen to the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs.

Ellis, a 24-year-old native of Orangeville, Ontario, split last season between the AHL's Utah Grizzlies and the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL. Ellis appeared in 20 games with Utah in 2003-04, earning a record of 5-14-0, a 2.92 goals against average, and a .909 save percentage. Ellis also played in 23 contests for Idaho, posting a record of 13-8-1, a 2.56 goals against average and a .909 save percentage The 6'0, 185-pound goaltender won his first and only NHL game with Dallas on February 18th, 2004, making 25 saves in a 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Kings. Ellis was selected in the second round, 60th overall at the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

Daley, 20, played for both the Dallas Stars and the Utah Grizzlies in 2003-04. While with Dallas last season, the 5'9, 197-pound native of Toronto skated in 27 games, tallying one goal and five assists for six points, as well as 76 minutes in penalties. Daley also played in 40 games with Utah, where he scored 14 points (8-6-14) and earned 76 penalty minutes. Daley was drafted 43rd overall by the Stars in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

Ott, a 6'1, 184 pound centre, played the entire 2003-04 season with the Dallas Stars. Ott skated in a total of 73 games with Dallas, earning two goals and ten assists for 12 points, along with 152 penalty minutes. The 22-year-old native of Stoney Point, Ontario won a silver medal for Canada at the 2002 World Junior Hockey Championships. Ott was the Stars first round selection, 25th overall in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

Miettinen, 6'0, 190-pound left-winger, competed for both the Dallas Stars and the Utah Grizzlies last season. In 16 games with the Stars, Miettinen scored one goal and did not record any penalty minutes. The 24-year-old native of Tampere, Finland played in 48 games with Utah and finished fourth in team scoring with 30 points on seven goals and 23 assists. Dallas selected Miettinen in the seventh round, 224th overall in the 200 NHL Entry Draft.

The Hamilton Bulldogs will open training camp on Wednesday, September 29th at the new Haldimand County Caledonia Centre in Caledonia.
