TAMPA BAY – The Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning, NHL affiliate of the Springfield Falcons, have signed free agent right wing Andre Deveaux to a standard three-year rookie contract, Executive Vice President & General Manager Jay Feaster announced today. In accordance with team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

The team also assigned Deveaux, center Craig Darby, left wing Steve McLaren, center Jarrod Skalde and right wing Shane Willis to Springfield of the American Hockey League, Feaster announced. The players will report to Springfield's training camp, which is scheduled to open September 29 at the Springfield Civic Center.

Deveaux, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound native of Freeport, Bahamas, was a free agent invitee at the Traverse City Prospects Tournament which concluded Tuesday, recording two assists in three games as the Lightning prospects finished second. Originally selected in the fourth round, 182nd overall, by Montreal at the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Deveaux didn't sign with the Canadiens and became an unrestricted free agent. The 20-year-old center played four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with Belleville and Owen Sound, recording 42 goals, 71 assists and 431 penalty minutes in 249 games.

"Andre came into Traverse City and truly earned himself a contract," Feaster said. "We were not necessarily looking to add anyone to our roster; however, Andre's hard work and the impact he made each and every shift made it impossible for us to ignore him. He is a tenacious, hard-nosed, gritty player who gives maximum effort at all times and is an outstanding face-off man. He will look good in a Lightning uniform."
