Rangers Suffer 5-4 Shootout Loss

Mississauga's Chris DeSousa scored four goals en-route to a St. Michael's Majors 5-4 shoot out victory over the Kitchener Rangers.

Jerry D'Amigo opened up scoring in the first period at 2:44 on a Rangers power play to give Kitchener a 1-0 lead. Andrew Crescenzi and Ben Thomson cycled the puck to open space where Thomson was able to take a shot on Majors netminder JP Anderson around the 8:00 mark. It was Tyler Randell who buried the rebound at 8:02 to put the Rangers up 2-0. DeSousa took advantage of a turnover to make it 2-1 by the 12:47 mark.

The Rangers and Majors traded goals in the second period. Gabriel Landeskog increased Kitchener's lead 3-1 after he beat Anderson to the blocker side at the 9:14 mark.DeSousa made it a one goal game when he scored his second of the evening off a feed from Gregg Sutch at 11:17.

Jason Akeson scored off a feed from Landeskog at 15:29 of the third period to make it 4-2 Rangers. The goal came on a Kitchener power play. The Majors battled back from a two goal deficit to tie the game with just 0:04 left on the clock to force overtime play. Goals came from DeSousa and Rob Flick.

The extra period was scoreless and the game went into a shoot out. DeSousa landed the win for the Majors in the shoot out.

Rangers' players took to the ice with specially designed lavender sticks to raise awareness about cancer in our community and pay tribute to those who are dealing or who have dealt with the disease.

All proceeds will be donated to HopeSpring Cancer Support Centre. Since 1995, people with cancer in Waterloo, Kitchener, Cambridge and the surrounding area have found inspiration, information, and empowerment at HopeSpring Cancer Support Centre.
