Kitchener, ON: The Kitchener Rangers have selected defenceman Simon Gronvaldt with the 57th pick in the 2008 CHL Import Draft.

Gronvaldt played last season with the Rodovre Mighty Bulls of the Denmark Superligaen and recorded one goal, three assists and six penalty minutes in 40 games. He also suited up for Denmark alongside Rangers winger Mikkel Boedker at the 2008 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships where he picked up one assist and six penalty minutes in six games.

Head Coach and General Manager Steve Spott describes Gronvaldt as a "big, strong, smooth-skating defenceman who has an above-average skill set." He added "He will complement our back end and I look forward to working with Simon the next three years."

The Rodovre, Denmark native is eligible for the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

The Rangers have had great success at the Import Draft in recent seasons acquiring players like Boris Valabik (2003), Jakub Kindl (2004), Yannick Weber (2006) and Mikkel Boedker (2007). All four developed into top NHL prospects while three of them - Valabik, Kindl and Boedker - were drafted in the first round.
