
Majors to Celebrate Canada Day at Civic Square

Mississauga, ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors are gearing up for one of the largest Canada Day festivals this summer, as the Majors community events team joins forces with the City of Mississauga to celebrate the national holiday at Civic Centre on Tuesday, July 1st. Opening ceremonies will begin at 1 p.m., as Mayor Hazel McCallion kicks off the event on the main stage in Library Square.
The Majors inflatable hockey unit will be set up on festival grounds during the entire event, while the Majors events team will be distributing some fabulous, free prizes. Catch the Mississauga Maniac appearing from 2 to 6 p.m.! Making special appearances in the afternoon are some Majors players, including Cameron Gaunce and Casey Cizikas, who will be available for autographs from 2 to 4 p.m.
Also, fans are encouraged to visit the Majors information table for an opportunity to enter a draw, at no cost, for a limited edition, 2007-08 team autographed hockey stick. The winning ballot will be chosen an hour prior to the conclusion of the festival. Every ballot received during this Majors campaign over the course of the summer will be re-entered into a grand prize draw for a pair of 2008-09 season tickets.

The City of Mississauga's Canada Day celebration is a public event that features live entertainment, children's activities, and will conclude with a fireworks display beginning at 10:30 p.m. It attracts over 50,000 people in the city annually. For more information, please visit www.mississauga.ca.
The Majors 2008-09 regular season kicks off on the road when they visit the Barrie Colts on Thursday, September 18 at 7:30 p.m. Their home opener will take place on Friday, October 3 at 7:30 p.m. as they take on the Niagara IceDogs.
