Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - During a busy trade deadline day, the Texas Rangers announced that the club has purchased the contract of Round Rock Express LHP Jeffrey Springs. The lefty is looking to make his major league debut in what is his first career callup to The Show.

Springs joined the Express on June 16 after opening the season with the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders. In 13 relief appearances with the E-Train, Springs went 1-2 with a 2.79 ERA (6 ER/19.1 IP). The Belmont, North Carolina native racked up 30 strikeouts to just 12 walks while holding opposing batters to a .182 average during his time in Round Rock.

Combined with his time in Frisco, the 25-year-old is 4-4 with two saves and a 4.13 ERA (26 ER/56.2 IP) in 33 relief appearances this season. In his four-year professional career, Springs is 11-17 with a 3.67 ERA (114 ER/279.2 IP) in 112 appearances, including 26 starts. The Rangers selected Springs in the 30th round of the 2015 June Draft out of Appalachian State University.

In addition, the Rangers have activated RHP Chris Martin from the disabled list, thus ending his major league rehab assignment with the Express. The righty allowed two hits while striking out a batter in his only inning of relief with the E-Train on July 29 at Dell Diamond.

Following Tuesday's league-wide off-day, the Express open a quick three-game series against the Albuquerque Isotopes on Wednesday night. Round Rock RHP Tyler Wagner (1-4, 4.50) is scheduled to face Albuquerque RHP Peter Lambert (2-1, 3.68). First pitch at Isotopes Park is set for 7:35 p.m.
