Fresno Tops Omaha 5-3 for Series Split

FRESNO, CA - Omaha's successful California road trip came to a close with a 5-3 setback against Fresno on Monday night at Chukchansi Park.

Fresno scored first in the bottom of the 2nd; Jamie Ritchie singled, Nick Tanielu doubled, and Antonio Nunez singled in both runners for a 2-0 lead.

Omaha scored three times in the top of the 3rd. With 2 out, Terrance Gore doubled, Billy Burns singled Gore home, Nicky Lopez walked, and Frank Schwindel smashed a 2-run double to briefly give the Chasers a 3-2 lead.

The Grizzlies responded with three of their own in the bottom of the inning. Taylor Jones and A.J. Reed doubled, and Yordan Alvarez clubbed a 2-run homer, putting Fresno ahead 5-3.

Trevor Oaks (L, 7-5) worked 5 innings for Omaha, allowing 5 runs, 8 hits, and 1 walk. He struck out 5.

Josh James (W, 5-4) pitched 6.1 frames for Fresno; he was charged with 3 runs on 4 hits, with 8 strikeouts and 1 walk.

Eric Stout worked two scoreless innings to keep Omaha close, and Richard Lovelady tossed a scoreless 8th.

But the Chasers couldn't rally against Fresno's bullpen. Buddy Boshers went 1.2 innings, and Riley Ferrell (S, 1) closed out the game in the 9th to send Omaha to just their 2nd defeat in 7 games.

The Storm Chasers (49-58) will be off tomorrow before returning to Werner Park to face Las Vegas and open a 7-game homestand on Wednesday. Omaha's starter is to be determined, while Las Vegas are expected to send RHP Chris Flexen (6-6, 4.24) to the mound.
