LAS VEGAS, Nevada - The Memphis Redbirds (68-40) dropped the series finale to the Las Vegas 51s 10-8 Monday night in Las Vegas. With the loss, the Redbirds finished 2-2 against the 51s this season, and finished their road trip 4-3.
In his Triple-A debut, starter Connor Jones was solid for the 'Birds. The righty threw four innings, allowing three unearned runs on five hits and three walks, while striking out six batters, but Memphis couldn't pull off the win, committing a season-high five errors. Rangel Ravelo started the inning with a single, scoring one batter later on an Adolis Garcia double. Later in the inning, Garcia scored on a sacrifice fly from Oscar Mercado. After Mercado's sac fly, the 'Birds put two men on and Edmundo Sosa went deep to make the score 5-1.
In the fifth, Lane Thomas hit his first career Triple-A home run to lead off the frame and make it 6-1. Max Schrock later doubled in a run in the inning. Thomas finished 2-for-5 at the plate, while Mercado, Wilfredo Tovar, and Steven Baron all finished with multiple hits as well for the Redbirds.
Five relievers threw in the game for Memphis. Matt Bowman took the loss, pitching 1.1 innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on two hits and a walk. Of the 10 runs the pitching staff allowed, only two of them were earned.
