Rangers' Mešár and Hamara Named to 2023 World Juniors Preliminary Rosters

Filip Mešár and Tomáš Hamara have been named to preliminary rosters for the 2023 World Juniors that gets underway in Moncton, N.B., and Halifax, N.S. on Boxing Day.

Mešár will look to represent Slovakia, while Hamara will aim for Czechia's final roster.

A first-round (26th overall) pick by the Montreal Canadiens this past summer, Mešár has 22 points (10-12-22) through 17 games with the Rangers this season. The 18-year-old from Spisska Bela, Slovakia was selected by the Rangers with the ninth overall pick of the 2021 CHL Import Draft. Mešár played in two games with Slovakia's National Junior Team at the 2021 World Juniors and also earned silver with his home country in the 2022 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, recording eight points (2-6-8) in five games.

A third-round pick of the Ottawa Senators this past summer, Tomáš Hamara has produced 11 points (2-9-11) in 24 games on the Kitchener blue line this season. The 18-year-old from Prague was selected by the Rangers with their first-round (26th overall) pick in the 2022 CHL Import Draft. Hamara represented Czechia at the 2022 World Juniors in August, recording an assist in seven games. He's also suited up for Czechia twice at the World Under-18 Hockey Championship, being named to the tournament all-star team in 2022 with eight assists in six contests.

Slovakia's tournament begins on December 27th against Finland, while Czechia begins the 2023 World Juniors against Canada on Boxing Day.
