Rangers Honour Kitchener Panthers at Pre-Game Ceremony
October 12, 2009 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Kitchener Rangers News Release
The Inter-County Baseball League began in 1919. The Kitchener Panthers were part of the original line-up. They are the only continuously operating team in the League, now with over 90 years of play!
Some players were two sport players, including the members of hockey's famous Kraut line, Bobby Bauer, Woody Dumart and Milt Schmidt, who played Panthers baseball while in the prime of their hockey careers. Since 1957, new rules limited teams to 3 import players and local players dominated the rosters.
Since 1946, The Panthers have won 13 IBL Championships, more than any team in the IBL.
This season the Panthers celebrated their 90th Anniversary and at the on field ceremonies, four players were inducted into the Panthers Hall of Fame; brothers Kevin and Randy Curran, Tom McKenzie and Bob McKillop, all lived and worked locally while playing for the Panthers.
The Panthers are still dedicated to being primarily a "home grown" team with players from the K-W area. As the Panthers move through their 9th decade toward 100 years, the team is dedicated to bringing great IBL baseball to Kitchener-Waterloo.
The Rangers would like to thank and salute the Kitchener Panthers for 90 great years of baseball.
Please join us for a special pre-game ceremony today when the Kitchener Rangers host the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds at 1pm.
Tickets for all Rangers home games are available by phone at 519-578-1570 or 1-800-265-8977, via the internet at www.centre-square.com or in person at the Centre In the Square Box Office or the Kitchener Auditorium Box Office.
