Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Brampton, ON - After suffering a tough loss to the London Knights just yesterday, things turned around for the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors this afternoon on the road.

The Majors concluded Thanksgiving weekend strong, edging the Brampton Battalion 2-1 at the Powerade Centre. This is the Majors' third game against the Battalion this year. The two previous match-ups also resulted in wins for Mississauga. With the victory, the Majors record improves to 6-3-0-0 on the season.

The 1st period started off slow. The Majors were outshot 12-8, and the game remained scoreless heading into intermission. The frame was, however, highlighted by a couple of notable saves made by Majors starting goalie JP Anderson.

The Toronto, Ontario native managed to block a shot coming from Brampton on a two-on-one break that stemmed from a turnover in the Majors zone with less than 6 minutes left in the frame to keep the score at 0-0. As the minutes winded down, the Battalion fired a shot from the point and the puck landed right on the doorstep of Anderson, who made the save.

The action picked up a bit in the 2nd period. Rob Flick scored a pivotal goal at 6:17 with help from Josh McFadden and Tim Billingsley to put the Majors in front, 1-0. Shortly after at 13:46, William Wallén wired a shot into Brampton?s net on the power-play to make it 2-0. Jordan Mayer and Stuart Percy got the assists. But Kyle Pereira's power-play goal that came at 18:04 off of passes from Ken Peroff and Philip Lane cut the lead in half. This time the shots on goal were 11-4 in favour of Mississauga.

There was no scoring in the 3rd period, while the Battalion outshot the Majors 10-6 in the frame. The visitors held onto the 2-1 lead to take the win.

Anderson blocked 25 shots for the Majors while Patrick Killeen turned aside 23 shots for the Battalion. Mississauga was 1 for 2 on the power-play while Brampton finished 1 for 2. The three stars of today?s game were Flick (1st), Anderson (2nd) and Lane (3rd).

The Majors play host to the Niagara IceDogs this Friday night at 7:30 p.m. A complete list of the Majors 2009-10 regular season schedule is available at the Majors website (www.stmichaelsmajors.com).
