
Rangers Drop Season Opener

Kitchener, ON: The London Knights used four power play goals tonight to defeat the Rangers 4-3 to open the 2004-05 season at The Aud before a crowd of 5,884.
Corey Perry gave the Knights an early 1-0 advantage with his first goal of the season at 1:23 on the power play. Andre Benoit who tied a CHL record during last year's opener with 8 points scored his first to tie the game at 1-1.
In the second period Craig Voakes beat Knights' goalie Gerald Coleman at the 4:24 mark to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead.
Robbie Schremp scored the first of his two goals in the period at 10:11 and then beat DiRienzo again at 16:12 to give the Knights a 3-2 lead. Both goals came while the Knights were on the power play.
London increased their lead to 4-2 with another power play goal, this one by Danny Syvret at 7:18.
Adam Keefe cut the lead to 4-3 on a late goal by Craig Voakes with just 4.7 seconds remaining in the game.
For the game the Rangers outshot the Knights 45-27. Carlo DiRienzo turned aside 23 shots in the loss.
The Rangers next home game is Friday, October 1st vs the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at The Aud. The Rangers travel to London on Sunday to face the Knights at 2:00 p.m.
